The Department of Public Policy in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor with a July 1, 2026 start date. 

This is a full-time (9 months) fixed term (non-tenure-track) position. Candidates will be considered for a three year contract term with the possibility of renewal and opportunities for promotion within the teaching track.

Applicants must be well prepared to teach core courses in our interdisciplinary undergraduate major and Master of Public Policy (MPP) program. The successful candidate will teach six courses per academic year (3 courses per semester) including some combination of courses in public policy analysis, the politics of public policy, global policy issues, and/or research methods. The faculty member would also have the opportunity to teach a first-year seminar or elective in their area of expertise. In addition to classroom teaching, Teaching Assistant Professors advise and mentor students and actively contribute to the work and mission of the department.      

Strong potential for outstanding university teaching, a desire to train and work with a wide range of students, and a capacity to contribute productively to an active multidisciplinary department, are necessary for consideration.

Minimum Requirements

A PhD in public policy, or a closely related social science field (e.g., philosophy, political science)
