 The Schar School of Policy and Government provides undergraduate and graduate students the skills, knowledge, and analytic abilities to be leaders and managers in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors.

About the Position:

This tenure line faculty position teaches the School's standard course load and conducts research in the field of security studies, particularly as this field relates to public policy and administration.

Responsibilities:

  • Research: Maintain an active research agenda by publishing papers in refereed professional journals and/or books with major, high quality publishing firms and pursuing external funding.
  • Teaching: Teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels with an emphasis on core courses in the Master of International Security, Master of Public Administration, and undergraduate International Security and Law degree programs; advise and mentor PhD and doctoral students.
  • Service: Contribute to the School’s diverse and growing community of scholars by actively engaging with students and faculty and volunteering for school and university-level committees.

 Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in a related field;
  • Must hold a Ph.D. in international relations, international security, public administration, public policy, political science, or a JD or doctoral degree in a related field no later than August 15, 2025; and
  • Skill to mentor and teach students; ability to research independently and publish; knowledge in the interface between international security, public policy and public administration; experience with or ability to publish in peer reviewed and/or high impact outlets.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in the areas of international security, national security, homeland security, emergency management, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, the defense industrial base, or transnational crime and corruption will be regarded positively. Candidates whose work focuses on climate security, technological change and the future of warfare, or domestic extremism are also encouraged to apply, as are candidates with regional expertise.
