Postdoctoral Fellowship in Research to Improve the Quality and Diversity of the Teacher Pipeline 

A research partnership of University System of Maryland (USM) campuses seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow for an Institute of Education Sciences (IES) grant-funded project. Scholars who have completed a Ph.D. in education, public policy, economics, or a related field and have strong quantitative methodological skills are invited to apply to work on cutting-edge research and development to advance the understanding of the incentives, pathways, and obstacles to entering the teaching workforce. 

This project is a research partnership with the Maryland Higher Education Commission and researchers at the University of Maryland,Baltimore (co-PI Dr. Angela Henneberger), the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (PI - Dr. Jane Arnold Lincove), and the College of Education at the University of Maryland, College Park (Co-PI Dr. David Blazar). The position is located at the Maryland Longitudinal Data System Center, which is housed in the University of Maryland School of Social Work (UMSSW). This project will conduct applied policy research using Maryland’s state longitudinal data system to improve the quality and diversity of the teacher pipeline in  Maryland. The anticipated start date of this appointment is summer 2025. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct statistical analyses using data from Maryland’s state longitudinal data system, a multi-sector linked longitudinal data system. 

  • Collaborate on scholarly dissemination of findings related to the teaching pipeline  (e.g., conference presentations and peer reviewed journal articles). 

  • Support dissemination activities to foster translation of research findings to practice  (e.g., practitioner-focused research briefs). 

  • Work collaboratively on a multidisciplinary and multi-site research team, as well as with Maryland stakeholders including state agencies, university administrators, school districts, and public school teachers. 

This postdoctoral fellowship will be principally on site in the Baltimore region. 



Compensation and Benefits: 

Salary will follow NIH guidelines. Compensation will include health insurance, a generous  paid leave package, and funds for professional development.

Qualifications 

Education: 

  • Must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant field of study.  

  • Ph.D. must be completed prior to acceptance. Students in the process of completion must provide assurance that degree will be complete prior to start. 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Experience in educational research. 

  • Demonstrated background in quantitative research design and statistics. 

  • Familiarity with statistical software and willingness to learn additional platforms. 

  • Comfort with working in online platforms for research and collaboration. 

 

Preferred Skills: 

  • Experience and scholarship in educational policy and leadership.

  • Knowledge of the field of teacher education and diversity. 

  • Experience working with K-12 students/schools/teachers. 

  • Experience conducting data analysis with large data sets in R, SAS, Stata, SQL, or other software.
