Open Rank, Tenure - Track Faculty Positions in Artificial Intelligence
The School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois invites applications from qualified individuals for 100% full-time Tenure-Track Faculty Positions in Artificial Intelligence at the assistant professor level. Exceptional senior candidates at the associate and full professor levels will also be considered.
We seek candidates who will bring excellence to campus via outstanding research, teaching, and service. Candidates will ideally conduct research in the broad areas of artificial intelligence (AI), which include but are not restricted to foundation models, agentic AI, machine learning (ML), natural language processing (NLP), computer vision (CV), generative AI and large language models (LLMs), AI for social good, social justice, and social change, AI policy and governance, data management for AI, trustworthy AI, human-centered AI, explainable AI, automated methods that support the FAIR principles (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable) and/or FATE (fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics), FORC (foundations of responsible computing) for AI, AI for Knowledge Management, AI for Information Retrieval, AI Literacy, AI and Youth, AI for Cultural Heritage Institutions (GLAM), and privacy, security, and safety of AI. An ability to teach courses in various degree programs at graduate and undergraduate levels with diverse delivery formats, e.g., in-person or online is desirable. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Information Sciences, Computer Science, or a field related to one of the areas of interest.
We especially welcome candidates who can demonstrate broader impacts in areas such as public health, education, sociotechnical information systems, and other aspects of information sciences. Exceptional candidates in any area of information science, and particularly those with demonstrable commitments to a more inclusive society, may also be considered.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
This is a 100% time, tenure-track faculty position appointed on a 9-month service basis paid over 12 months with the opportunity for summer appointment. The expected start date is negotiable.
The budgeted salary range for these positions is $90,000-$140,000 at the Assistant Professor level, $110,000-$170,000 at the Associate Professor level, and $130,000-$200,000 at the Professor level. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or discipline; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
