About RFA
Launched in 2023, the Reproductive Freedom Alliance (RFA) is a nonpartisan coalition of Governors committed to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom. The Alliance supports Governors and their staff in proactively coordinating and developing strategies to strengthen reproductive rights and health care access across Alliance states. RFA is supported by the Governors Action Alliance (GovAct). RFA is a fiscally sponsored project of Global Impact, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.
Role Summary
The Operations and Strategic Initiatives Director advises the Executive Director on matters ranging from organizational structure and growth to setting programmatic priorities and develops strategic partnerships to advance the work and the mission of the Alliance. In addition, the Operations and Strategic Initiatives Director provides operational, management, and programmatic support to the Alliance.
Status: Full-Time/Exempt
Salary Range: $160,000-175,000 annually, commensurate with experience
Travel: Some domestic travel required
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning
- In close collaboration with the Executive Director and governors’ office staff, develop and implement a strategic plan to advance initiatives and policies to protect and expand reproductive health and rights at the state level.
- Organizational and Project Management
- Develop and manage an operational plan to support the broader strategic plan, including establishing timelines, roles, and responsibilities, and tracking progress to goals.
- Partner with the Executive Director to formalize governance guidelines and implement organizational policies and processes that support effective governance, communication, and execution toward strategic objectives.
- Provide regular updates to RFA Executive Committee and Alliance leads, fiscal sponsor, funders, and other entities as needed.
- Operations
- Manage operations, in partnership with RFA’s fiscal sponsor Global Impact, including budget administration, hiring and onboarding of staff, and compliance.
- Partner and Donor Engagement
- Cultivate strategic partnerships with federal, policy, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate with stakeholders and partners, including GovAct, consultants and RFA’s fiscal sponsor.
- Support the Executive Director with donor relations and fundraising.
Qualifications
- Experience: A minimum of 7 years of legal, policy, advocacy, government, or other related experience in reproductive rights, public health, health care, or adjacent areas. Experience managing operational functions including finance, human resources, and compliance. Strong preference for experience working in a Governor’s Office or with senior state officials.
- Skills: Exceptional writing and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to build coalitions and manage relationships with staff, stakeholders, and partners at all levels.
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of state government operations and public policy.
- Leadership: Experience managing projects and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
- Judgment: Ability to exercise sound judgment on highly sensitive policy and political matters in fast-paced environments.
- Entrepreneurial spirit: Willingness to roll up one’s sleeves and multi-task in a fast-paced, start-up environment.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degree in law, public health, public policy or another relevant field a plus.
