The Department of Public Policy at UNC-Chapel Hill is searching for a candidate with meaningful policy-relevant professional experience who is excited to teach and mentor the next generation of public policy analysts and work closely with faculty colleagues to build a top Master of Public Policy (MPP) degree program.
The Public Policy Department's MPP program, the only public university MPP in North Carolina, enrolled its first cohort in 2022. Our faculty conduct groundbreaking research on pressing challenges--from climate change and educational equity to national security and global public health—while providing students with the perspective, skills, and knowledge to respond to domestic and global policy challenges. We emphasize student-focused learning and real-world impact while pursuing innovative research and service in the public interest.
The successful candidate will teach six courses per academic year (3 courses per semester), with the possibility of a course reduction for taking on administrative responsibilities in the MPP program. Courses will include the MPP Capstone (PLCY 992), in which students complete a policy-related research project for a client/partner, courses in professional development, and additional core and elective courses that align with the candidate’s expertise. All courses are taught in-person. Additional responsibilities include internship and career mentoring and placement assistance for MPP students.
Applicants must have a master’s degree in public policy or a related academic discipline (e.g., public administration, government, economics), as well as substantial professional experience related to policy analysis, implementation, and/or evaluation. The initial appointment is for a three-year term with the possibility of renewal. Learn more and apply here: https://unc.peopleadmin.com/postings/310502
