Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor of Urban Planning and Public Service

The NYU Wagner Graduate School of Public Service invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions in urban planning, with appointment to begin September 1, 2027. At least one position will be at the assistant professor level, and one may be at the associate professor level.  Successful applicants will have a demonstrated record of research excellence and productivity, a promising research agenda, and a Ph.D. in a relevant field. 

NYU Wagner is a multidisciplinary school that prepares public service leaders to translate ideas into actions that have an effective and lasting impact on the public good. Wagner’s 35 full-time faculty members are trained in a wide variety of disciplines and share a commitment to addressing issues of public importance in their teaching, research and service. Wagner faculty members collaborate with other schools and departments across the university, including the Departments of Politics, Economics, and Sociology; School of Law; Stern School of Business; Tandon School of Engineering; and the College of Global Public Health.  Wagner faculty members also have opportunities to collaborate with and hold leadership positions at various research centers like the NYU Furman Center, the Rudin Center, and the Marron Institute of Urban Management.

Successful candidates will teach in our urban planning program and demonstrate a research interest in cities, both globally and domestically. We welcome applications from scholars with interests in a wide range of urban topics, including infrastructure, housing, climate change, and technology, and who study these issues in different contexts.  We are particularly interested in candidates who focus on the physical/spatial dimensions of cities, defined broadly, and those whose work focuses on pressing urban planning challenges more generally.  We seek faculty candidates who are excited to teach a diverse population of students motivated to understand and improve urban communities.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for the assistant professor position is $125,000-$145,000.  The annual base salary range for the associate professor position is $145,000-$165,000.
