The Department of Public and Nonprofit Studies in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences invites applications and nominations for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor of Public Administration, specializing in Public Policy.

Within this setting, the Department of Public and Nonprofit Studies houses the NASPAA-accredited Master of Public Administration (MPA) program. Offering concentrations in public and nonprofit management, the MPA program is a hybrid program that blends online and in-person instruction. The department also offers three online undergraduate minors in public administration, public policy, and nonprofit management. Being fully committed to the advancement of public service education as well as serving a diverse student population, the department is taking steps to expand its curricular offerings at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including an online undergraduate major in Public Policy. This position will add to the department’s faculty ranks, with primary research and teaching contributions in the area of public policy. The faculty focuses on high quality, student-centered undergraduate and graduate education, maintains a strong research agenda, and engages in impactful service within the University (including a strong commitment to student mentoring), the profession, and the community. Position Description: Reporting to the Chair of Public and Nonprofit Studies the assistant professor position requires teaching undergraduate and graduate courses as needed, a rigorous program of academic scholarship, and participation in service activities. The position is a 10-month, tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
• Earned doctorate in Public Policy, Public Administration, Public Affairs, or a closely related field, by August 1, 2023.
• Commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Ability to effectively teach across modalities, including web-based instruction and in-person.
• Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
• Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
• Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.
• Willingness to engage in funded and applied research.
• The successful candidate will be able to teach courses in their area of policy specialization, as well as core courses such as: policy analysis, democratic institutions, applied ethics, applied economics, and research methods.
• Ability to teach courses in one or more general areas of Public Administration is also highly desirable.
• The successful candidate will be able to tailor their instruction to meet the needs of a diverse student body.
Conditions of Employment:
• Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.
• All work (with limited exceptions such as research and study abroad and outside activities such as grading and email correspondence) for Georgia Southern University must be completed while the employee is physically present in the state of Georgia, unless specifically authorized by the university for a specific purpose and limited period of time within current policy.
• Faculty are expected to contribute to the vibrant university community by engaging students, participating in events, and performing other responsibilities on-campus.
• Faculty may be required to teach, conduct research, or perform service duties on any of the three campuses. Georgia Southern provides accessible transportation options between campuses.
